1 Bedroom House in Parranquet

Old 3 storey tower, with a room on each floor - bedroom, kitchen and bathroom (with shower).

Deep in the countryside, set in its own fields front and back. You can eat out on the deck under a parasol and look out over the beautiful rolling countryside. The road outside has maybe one car an hour. The only other dwelling nearby is the farmhouse on the other side of the road. Ideal for birdwatching in tranquillity. However, the nearest town with supermarkets etc is only 10 minutes drive away so you are not cut off from civilisation. Also, wifi has just been installed.

The bedroom has a double bed and also a single futon sofabed. Please note that at the moment I cannot provide a towel for the third person - you would need to bring your own.

The bathroom is in the floor below the kitchen/diner. There is a shower and washing machine. Outside this room is the lower patio, which is completely hidden from view

The house has been in my family for decades and many have fallen in love with it, but be aware that although it has everything you need, it is a typical French rural property, with terracotta floor tiles, oak beams, chestnut flooring, and rough plastered walls. The stairs are steep.

There is a swimming pool at a campsite in the village at Parranquet nearby, and a swimming lake with a sandy beach about 15 minutes drive away. There is a fishing lake a few minutes walk away (Brayssou)

There is a large trampoline for children. (Use at own risk).

The area is known for its medieval "bastide" towns; Monpazier is nearby, also Villereal and Monfanquin, which have regular farmers's markets. The Dordogne river is within easy reach, where you can swim and hire canoes for a lazy day drifting downstream. The famous caves with prehistoric paintings are also quite close.

Bergerac airport is about half an hour's drive away

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay in the "Pigeonnier". It is a lovely little house in a very quiet location, yet not far from several medieval villages with weekly markets and thriving local shops such as bakery, butcher's etc. There is also a small supermarket in nearby Villereal, if needed. All meals can be enjoyed outside on the deck and the combination of fantastic local produce and a very well equipped kitchen allows for truly delicious food to be prepared and enjoyed.
