The Cliffs - The Painted Mill | House in O Barqueiro
1 Bedroom House in Porto do Barqueiro, O Barqueiro
If stones told stories, this almost two-century-old mill would speak of a time when values and survival went hand in hand. Where in these small coastal farming and fishing villages, they managed with ancient tools and basic materials that with tenacity and much effort, built this wind machine capable of grinding local wheat crops... Time of basics; fish, vegetables, and bread, but that Galician bread so appreciated by locals and strangers, which has lasted over time, becoming a product of necessity to a delicatessen of exquisite recognition...If these stones could speak, they would tell the story of a family, the grandparents of Secundino Rivera, creators of this mill in the 19th century, and as back in 1973, already in the hands of Secundino, forgotten and in ruin, they undertook a tedious process recovery; completing machinery, grinding stones, gears, etc, to turn it into his personal paint shop. Secundino Rivera (1932-2013), artist; painter and sculptor of recognized international renown, neat in work that we can now enjoy as part of the essence of this mill, commemorates with its transformation into a vacation property, a new stage of inspiration for all those adventurers of emotions, of destinations with history, that the passage of time did not make a dent in its foundations...

The mill is located, quiet and intimate among forests, in the secluded Villa de OBarqueiro, a tiny picturesque fishing port, firm at the sea entrance of the Ría Sor, still vigilant at the maritime entrance of the North Seas.An original construction of thick solid stone walls, with its handcrafted wooden dome, crossed by its axes and entire chestnut beams, offers us a unique vision of living an archaeological experience, but modernized to the comfort of our times for very personal.
